Missing Point Estimation for Reduction of Nonlinear Systems The method of missing point estimation (MPE) uses the theory of the gappy POD to come up with an efficient method for reduction of nonlinear systems. A general nonlinear CFD model can be written as a linear time-varying (LTV) system. A quantitative criteria based on POD modes is used to select a suitable subset of the original spatial coordinate set. The states of the POD-based reduced-order LTV model can be estimated much more efficiently by conducting projections on these selected states. The MPE method was developed in the PhD thesis of Patricia Astrid, who spent the fall semester of 2003 at MIT.
